R1: Kicking off the Summer Series

The wind wasn't looking to good - very light - as we headed out. A beautiful evening, we arrived back in the dark.

The Crew

John (Captain), Dave, Ian, Nick and Mark.

Course 8

From the start line to Rough Rock Buoy (S), Bean Rock Buoy (S), Resolution Buoy (S), to the finish line. 9.3NM. The tide was very strong, however coming in, rather than holding us out - although Rough Rock Buoy was a slow grind against the tide.

The Start

Not a bad start, but slow... we could have been 30s better at the start. Actually there seemed to be some wind around the start area, and that died out as we headed down towards Devonport.

Progress

We thought we were doing OK, but around North Head we struggled to make progress, and as can be seen from the track, the tide was having quite an effect, pushing us back up the harbour.

Going around Bean Rock Buoy we were completely in the dark and had sailed a way past before being able to spot it in the torch beam.

Result

Touch and go with the return trip, but ended OK - under the 9:00 cutoff by 10 minutes.
{Forgot... I won a beanie and Ian won some CRC cleaning proucts]

Cheers, johnhs
